House No. 4 Magnus Family

Magnus Königsberg

Tea merchants had a good reputation in Königsberg, because in the 19th century the city was the main hub of the entire continental tea trade. Tea merchant and unsalaried councilman Magnus, who was the chairman of the board of the Jewish Community between 1900 and 1908, belonged to the top of the Jewish society. He had a new house built for his family in the early 1880s, which was considered the most modern in Königsberg at the time. The couple Zerline and Samuel Magnus were involved in many charitable projects.
